How To Choose Your Goal Post Guards

Goal post guards are a great way to help prevent injuries and improve player safety by providing a protective barrier around goal posts, reducing the risk of collisions.

With so many goal post guards available though, how do you choose the right one for your needs? Read on below to find out!

Step 1: Choose Your Sport

Our goal post guards are available for Basketball, Aussie RulesNetball and Rugby.

These are designed specifically for each sport, so it's important to select a guard from the right range.

Step 2: Getting The Right Padding For The Posts

Each of our goal post guards have an internal diameter (I/D) listed of either 80mm, 100mm or 120mm.

"The internal diameter is the space inside the padding that wraps around your goal post. To get the right fit, check the diameter of your posts before choosing your guard.

If you don’t have this information handy, it’s time to dust off those high school math skills - simply measure the circumference of the post and divide it by π (Pi) to get the diameter.

Step 3: Selecting The Right Height

If you are after Aussie Rules or Netball goal post guards then you will need to ensure you select the right height - feel free to skip this step for Basketball and Rugby.

Our Aussie Rules goal post guards come in two sizes: 2500mm and 1800mm. Senior rules require padding to be at least 2500mm high, so make sure you meet this standard for official play.

For junior footy, the 1800mm option is a great fit - tailored to younger players and a more budget-friendly choice for clubs and programs.

Step 3: Select The Correct Style

Our Cylindrical goal post guards pack 50mm of foam padding and fasten with four hook-and-loop straps for a secure, stable fit, making them ideal for top-level protection. This is the only style approved for senior footy, but it’s also a solid option for juniors, depending on your club's setup.

We also offer a Wrap Around style, featuring the same 50mm foam padding and full-length fasteners for a tight, secure fit. Easy to install and remove, it's a go-to choice for schools and training sessions.
